My Experience at The Peck House in Deary, Idaho

This past weekend, I had the incredible opportunity to associate shoot a wedding for my friend and fellow photographer, Lyndan Bell Photography (definitely check her out!). The wedding took place at a beautiful Airbnb venue called The Peck House in Deary, Idaho — a hidden gem near Moscow, Idaho that’s perfect for small, intimate weddings.

As an associate photographer, I was both excited and a little nervous. I’d never traveled that far north (past McCall, Idaho), so it was an adventure in more ways than one!

Why Photographing Airbnb Weddings is Such a Unique Experience

Airbnb weddings are becoming increasingly popular among couples seeking an intimate, budget-friendly, and personalized celebration. This Airbnb wedding was no exception — The Peck House felt like a charming forest hideaway with all the cozy, cottage-like vibes. Surrounded by towering pines, it set the perfect stage for a small, family-only celebration with just 10 guests.

For couples considering an Airbnb wedding, it’s important to check with the host about event policies. Some Airbnbs limit guest numbers or restrict wedding events altogether, so make sure to clarify that before booking.

Associate Shooting: Representing the Main Photographer

One of the biggest takeaways from this experience was the importance of representing the main photographer’s brand and vision. Because Lyndan couldn’t attend in person, she hired me (and another associate photographer) to capture the wedding on her behalf.

Here’s what that process looked like:

Pre-wedding prep: We had a video chat with Lyndan, the couple, and all the associate shooters to review the timeline, the couple’s vision, and any important details.

Camera settings & style: Lyndan shared her preferred camera settings and shooting styles, including shutter speed, f-stop, and white balance (she prefers Kelvin). This ensured consistency in the final gallery.

Shot list & timeline: She provided us with a detailed shot list and a timeline so we knew exactly what moments to capture — essential for smooth coverage and easier editing later.

Contact info: We set up a group chat with Lyndan and the couple, so we could reach out as needed and keep her in the loop on the day.

Pro Tip for photographers: Always ask for:

  • The main photographer’s camera settings (especially Kelvin if they shoot in Kelvin).
  • A full shot list and timeline.
  • Any special requests or preferred angles that align with their brand.

Tech Tip: Keeping Important Info Handy

One trick I love: I create a lock screen with the timeline and key notes (using my iPhone 14 Pro’s photo shuffle on tap feature). It’s a quick, efficient way to stay organized during the day — no fumbling with apps or printed notes.

The Wedding Day at The Peck House

When I arrived at The Peck House, I immediately introduced myself as Lyndan’s associate photographer to the groom, who greeted me warmly. It’s crucial to introduce yourself properly so everyone knows you’re there on behalf of the main photographer. Throughout the day, I kept redirecting any questions about my business back to Lyndan’s brand — this is so important for maintaining the main photographer’s reputation.

This wedding was small and intimate — only 10 guests. The bride did all the florals, archway decor, and even her own makeup, while her best friend helped with hair. The DIY approach fit perfectly with the relaxed Airbnb setting.

From Forest Trails to Family Games: The Best Moments

🌲 Bridal Portraits in the Forest

After getting ready (the couple got ready together — no first look needed!), we headed to a nearby hiking trail for some epic bridal portraits. The light filtering through the trees created a magical, ethereal vibe that made for stunning photos.

🍇 Charcuterie Boards & Chill Vibes

Back at The Peck House, a charcuterie board awaited guests — a perfect laid-back touch for a small gathering.

💍 Heartfelt Vows

The couple’s ceremony was simple and meaningful, with the groom’s brother officiating. One of my favorite shots was from behind the officiant — capturing the couple facing each other and the guests’ reactions. Highly recommend adding this angle to your shot list!

🎲 Fun Wedding Games

During dinner, the couple played memory games and the classic shoe game — small group? No problem. These games brought out genuine smiles and laughter, perfect for candid captures.

🍰 Cake & Dancing

The bride and groom cut the cake themselves, serving guests with so much joy. Later, they danced under the trees, sharing a truly unforgettable evening.
